A Race Against Time
by Kemp Jaycox
Kemp Jaycox has been a member of Forest Hill Church since 2010. While busy leading an active life filled with sports, family and working in his environmental science career, he contracted a stomach virus that caused his immune system to overreact, resulting in a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Now, in a race against time as his body shuts down and makes the simplest task impossible, he is intent on telling his life story to offer hope to others. His narrative is called, “A Race Against Time: A Memoir about MS, Love, Loss, and Life Lessons.” It is rooted in this unrelenting disease, but also in tragic deaths and unfathomable grief experienced in Kemp’s formative years. While these experiences could have crushed him, Kemp has instead learned lessons of courage and survivorship from them. He has found the resilience and perseverance needed to chart a new purpose and meaning for his life. Kemp’s story is at once heartbreaking and comical. It is tragic and joyful. It is proof that each of us leads a life precious and fragile. His hope is that others can find inspiration and resilience from learning his story and chart a purpose and meaning against whatever odds they face.
