As we move forward from the dark, dank days of winter into breezy spring and warm, sunny summer, here are some reminders for all ecologically-minded Earth Care Forest Hillians:
- Turn down the thermostat and turn off the air conditioner as much as possible!
- You don’t need a long, hot shower anymore to get warm!
- Time for keeping clean water in your birdbaths
- Be judicious in outdoor water sprinkling usage
- Minimize use of pesticides/insecticides, fertilizers
- Plant pollinator-friendly plants and flowers
- Avoid soil erosion and water run-off.
- Make dams/canals in garden areas
- Compost your discarded organic food scraps and when decomposed, reuse
- Combine errands to minimize auto trips
- Reduce, reuse, recycle!
- Return plastic bags, wrappers to a collection bin
- Check your community for hazardous/solvent/paint central collection days
- Refill your Yeti or other water container from a tap
- Use reusable bags when shopping for groceries and other retail items
- If you need a new appliance, make sure it is Energy Star rated
- Support local food farmers’ markets
