About The Event

“Missing in Brooks County” is a documentary film about the work being done by Eddie Canales and the South Texas Human Rights Center. In 2012, Eddie and others became aware of many migrants who went missing while traveling to the U.S. Multiple families were seeking help in locating their loved ones. As the discovery of many bodies of those who perished traveling difficult terrain in Brooks County, Texas, Eddie established the South Texas Human Rights Center (STHRC). The Center’s mission is “to end death and suffering along the Texas/Mexico border through community initiatives.” STHRC works with forensic experts to locate and identify those who have gone missing and/or died. In an effort to prevent deaths, Eddie and volunteers have placed barrels with drinking water along roads and private property in Brooks County. Fifteen members of FHC ITF traveled to the Texas-Mexico border in 2023 and met Eddie and other STHRC volunteers and they helped place water barrels along roads and private property in Brooks County.
